The primary purpose of the staff LPN is to provide direct nursing care to all children. You are to monitor all children in your area and report any and all changes to the RN/DON. You are to document all appropriate information and changes. As the staff area nurse you are also responsible to ensure that the child care technicians are doing their job appropriately. As the nurse you are not only medical care and monitoring but also to engage in the areas activities.
1. Direct and monitor the day to day functions of the child care technicians in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines that govern the facility, ensuring all policies and procedures are being followed;
2. Cooperate with other IDC team members when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the child’s total regimen of care is maintained;
3. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, charting, MARS, etc. as necessary;
4. Meet with DON and administrator on a regular basis to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of services;
5. Administer medications, breathing treatments and dressing changes as ordered;
6. Perform routine charting policies and procedures as required;
7.Insure that an adequate supply of all medications, supplies and equipment are on hand to meet the nursing needs. This includes proper documentation that the appropriate requests were sent home to the parents;
8.Review medication administration record for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcript of the physician’s orders and adhere to all medication policies and procedures;
9. Manage all medical emergencies with assistance for RN/DON;
10. Alert DON/RN about changes in the child’s medical status;
