Position Title: Performing Arts Teacher

Real-World, Authentic Curriculum through Project-Based Learning (PBL)
- Develop and implement an innovative and immersive performing arts curriculum for students in grades K-7, integrating music, theater, and dance.
- Collaborate with fellow educators to create interdisciplinary, project-based arts programs aligned with the school's mission, vision, and state standards.
- Design and execute curriculum units and lessons using a PBL framework, emphasizing inquiry, creativity, and student-driven learning.
- Establish clear learning objectives and assess student progress through performances, assignments, and rubrics, providing constructive feedback and progress reports.
Meaningful Assessment
- Evaluate student academic and social development using formative and summative assessments, fostering a culture of thoughtful risk-taking and active engagement.
- Integrate reading, research, writing, and communication skills within the arts curriculum, encouraging students to reflect on their experiences and articulate their observations and ideas.
- Set transparent objectives and expectations for lessons and projects, ensuring effective communication with students.
Individualized Instruction
- Facilitate collaborative learning and differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs and interests, including those of special education and English Learner students.
- Utilize experiential learning activities to promote student discovery and mastery in the arts.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to maximize learning time and cultivate a supportive learning environment.
Positive School Culture
- Organize classroom performances and school-wide events to showcase student achievements and foster community engagement.
- Foster social-emotional growth and citizenship among students, maintaining a safe and respectful classroom environment.
- Consistently enforce behavioral expectations and communicate with parents regarding student progress and conduct.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and mandated reporting procedures, prioritizing student well-being during all school activities.
Collaboration and Professional Growth
- Communicate proactively with parents, colleagues, and administrators to address student needs and promote holistic development.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school committees to contribute to a collaborative learning community.
- Engage in ongoing professional growth through self-reflection, peer observation, and participation in external development activities.
- Foster partnerships with local arts organizations to provide performance opportunities and enrich the arts education experience for students.
- Other duties as deemed necessary by the executive director.
Qualifications
Performing Arts Background
- Substantial experience as a performer in one or more areas of the performing arts (e.g., acting, dancing, singing, musical instruments).
- Participation in productions, showcases, or performances at regional, national, or international levels.
- Experience in directing or choreographing performances is a plus.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- (Preferred) Bachelor’s degree or higher in Performing Arts, Theater, Dance, Music, or a related field.
Teaching Experience:
- Experience teaching a variety of performing arts disciplines such as acting, dance, music, and/or theater production in a performance or educational setting.
- (Preferred) 3-5 years of teaching experience in a K-12 school setting.
Performance Experience:
- Substantial experience as a performer in one or more areas of the performing arts (e.g., acting, dancing, singing).
- Participation in productions, showcases, or performances at regional, national, or international levels.
- Experience in directing or choreographing performances is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in one or more performing arts disciplines, with the ability to teach fundamental techniques effectively.
- Familiarity with stagecraft, technical theater, and production aspects such as lighting, sound, and set design.
- Knowledge of industry-standard software or tools related to performing arts (e.g., music composition software, video editing software) is advantageous.
