SmileMakers Comprehensive Dentistry is seeking a Sterilization Technician to join our team in Montgomery, AL.
Job Description:
The Sterilization Technician prepares instruments, equipment, and patient surfaces for sterilization. This position requires excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently. The Sterilization Technician supports the clinical team by cleaning and sterilizing all instruments used in dental procedures, along with any instruments laid out for use. The person in this role may also assist the Dental Assistants by setting up and providing instruments before or during procedures and have administrative support duties.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Clean and sterilize all equipment.
- Complete all required training in sterilization procedures and policies.
- Complete all required training in sterilization procedures and policies.
- Complete all required training in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Comply with company policies and procedures, including but not limited to HIPAA regulations, state and federal laws, and company mission, values, and goals.
- Knowledge of and compliance with FDA and OSHA and office procedures for maintaining and sterilizing dental instruments and equipment.
- Maintain CPR certification.
- Follows all safety procedures in handling instruments, equipment, and hazardous waste material.
- Maintain supplies of instruments and inspected for the need for repair or replacement.
- Provide hand instruments and materials to the Dental Assistant or Dentist as needed.
- Collect, clean, prepare, and organize surgical and dental tools and instruments for dental procedures.
- Assists with maintaining a sterile working environment
- Must always represent the practice professionally, pleasantly, and cooperatively.
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to assigned work schedule and office policies.
- Must be able to comfortably and efficiently handle multiple deadlines and task assignments.
- Must be able to work both independently and cooperatively in team settings.
- Occasionally there may be some travel, by car or plane, required to participate in continuing education or seminars.
- Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what maintenance is needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management or supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Standing 80%.
- Sitting 20%.
- Moderate noise levels from dental and other lab equipment.
- Medical, office, and lab settings.
- Minimum moving requirement of 35 pounds in order to transfer equipment and pack and unpack supplies.
- Frequent client and interoffice personnel interaction as this position is chair-side to the dentist and heavily dependent on excellent customer interaction.
- Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as required for inspecting, maintaining, and sterilizing equipment.
- Able to perform repetitive physical and mental tasks each day.
Required Skills:
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, depending on the task at hand.
- Ability to problem solve in a fast-paced environment with urgency while maintaining accuracy in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time while working on instruments that must be kept upright throughout the entire sterilization process.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds without difficulty while working on instruments that may be lifted above your head throughout the entire sterilization process.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Always maintain the highest level of confidentiality to HIPAA standards.
- Adhere to strict safety guidelines and procedures to OSHA and office standards.
- You must be comfortable seeing and maintaining a professional demeanor while working around blood and unpleasant smells.
- Must be detail-oriented in order to work efficiently in small spaces
- Must be flexible and understand that job duties may change from time to time and that this individual may be asked to assist in other areas of the office.
- Must excel in forward thinking to anticipate the clinical team's needs.
- Must demonstrate active listening by giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
- Preferred two years of dental or medical practice experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
