JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Clinical Coordinator, Night Supervisor and Director of Nursing, the RN is responsible for providing direction and supervision of nursing personnel, demonstrating professional judgment, using problem solving techniques and time management principles, and appropriate delegation.
Coordinates the educational activities and utilizes appropriate resources to develop and implement teaching and discharge plan with patients and their families.
Provides hands-on care for assigned patients utilizing the nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe care and restoration of maximal physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health. This care is individualized and appropriate for the age of the patient served, including adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patient.
The RN will be flexible to work to meet the needs of the population served, including:
1) Week-ends, holidays, and rotating schedule
2) General rehab units, specialty units, and SubAcute.
The RN is responsible for following Standard Precautions(Universal Precaution and BSI) procedure including Transmission based isolation as appropriate.
SCOPE OF AUTHORITY / LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY / REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS / IDENTIFICATION OF WORK TEAM:
Under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator, the RN has responsibility and authority to supervise the patient care activities of LPN, CNA, Unit Representative, volunteers, students and provide guidance as indicated; to make staffing decisions; to monitor all supply usage; to initiate emergency procedures related to patients, families, staff, institution; to adhere to all criteria set forth by all state, federal and accrediting agencies such as OSHA, JCAHO, CARF, and Tennessee State Board of Nursing. The RN works collaboratively with the Infection Control/Employee Health Coordinator to facilitate appropriate implementation of Standard Precautions (Universal Precautions and Body Substance Isolation) including transmission based isolation precautions as appropriate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR EQUIVALENTS
Education:
- Graduation from accredited School of Nursing with current, unrestricted licensure as RN by State of Tennessee.
Experience:
- One year designated experience in acute care desired or participation in appropriate orientation and/or refresher program.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current Tennessee State RN licensure.
- Current CPR certification.
- ACLS within one year of employment preferred.
- CRRN preferred when eligible for exam.
Skills/Competencies:
1. Working knowledge of:
- Patient assessment skills.
- Frequently used patient care and safety equipment use.
- Medication administration.
- Frequently performed patient treatments.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift objects more than fifty pounds and assist with patient transfers (exceeding 200 pounds).
- Manual dexterity and coordination with the ability to perform moderately difficult manipulative skills such as positioning patients and performance of tasks requiring arm-hand steadiness.
- Able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to remember task assignments for varying periods of time.
- Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with frequent interruptions and remember multiple tasks given to self and others over long periods of time.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Exposure to blood, body tissue and hazardous waste materials. May be exposed to infectious diseases.
